Something To Think About.
October 14, 2020
(Not sure how much I will write and blog but I just
feel strongly to write and blog on things.
This blog is about my thoughts on what is in the news. Writing has never been a strength of mine so
I would welcome an editor to help me strengthen my writings.)
Sometimes you find a joke that is so true that it fits
into ones view of life. I found this
joke to best represent my views on politics: “How many politicians does it take
to change a light bulb? Two: one to change it and another one to change it back
again.”
Amy Coney Barrett has been recently nominated to
the Supreme Court by President Trump. It
is also an election year which makes it somewhat the same as when President
Obama nominated Merrick Garland to the court.
Merrick was nominated on March 16, 2016 where as Barret was nominated on
September 26, 2020. Note, both nominees were
picked during and election year. Now
remember the joke at the beginning and remember election year. It is also worth pointing out that in both
cases the republican party have control
of the senate. Sense Obama was a democrat
and republicans are control of the senate most republican senators said let the
voters to decide if we move forward with the Merrick nomination, by who they
vote for in the fall presidential election.
Lets flash forward to today and republicans are moving forward with the
Barrett nomination before a presidential election. They don’t want to wait until after the
election and see who wins. It boils down
to they want Barrett because she comes from a republican president.
Democrats wanted the nomination of Merrick to go
through back in 2016 republicans did not.
Now Democrats don’t want the nomination of Barrett to go through but
republicans do. Catch this and listen closely
both sides are being Hippocrates. Both sides have wanted that light bulb
changed and not changed at different points.
If republican’s were really believing in 2016 that the people should decide
if the nomination should go through by who they vote for president they would
have done that with the Barrett nomination. They do not want to risk not getting who they want on the court. Democrats
would not being saying that they should wait when they did not want to wait with the Merrick nomination. They
are saying what the republicans were saying in 2016. Light bulb joke again.
Justice should be at the heart of a Supreme court nomination
but it hasn’t truly been that way in a long time. Both parties appoint activist judges because
they want the court to vote approval and disapproval of what laws and matters
that come before the court their way. I
must ask what happened to Justice being blind?
Interpretation and ways of interpretation of the constitution are and always
will be a factor that Justices have to deal with. Yet, I find that only a small part of what
the parties are looking for in a Judge on the court. Take abortion for instants, republicans they
want a pro-life judge because they believe they are protecting life and democrats
want a judge that backs choice. This
issue comes up with all nominees and I want to point out that not much has
changed when in comes to abortion rights and yet it has always been an
issue. If justice is blind and the
constitution is the law of the land why wait for a court to reverse the decision
on Row verse Wade. They could try to get
an amendment to the constitution that would outlaw abortion. Roe verses Wade was decided in 1973 and here
it is 2020 and soon it will be 50 years sense that discussion. I point this out because I am tired of the
republicans holding my prolife point of view hostage just to get a vote.
I just picked abortion as one issue but we could
talk about other things like healthcare and with the election coming up, there
could be issues where the court needs to rule.
That is why justice should not be decide by politics but by Justices
that seek answers through the constitution and not how they feel.
Now back to the light bulb, the only way to change
direction is for people to learn to work together. NO ONE PARTY IS ABSOLUTLY RIGHT! We need each other and need to come together
and work together and our voted in representatives need to listen to both sides
to make sure they do what is right for the country. Even if that means losing votes. Both parties LOVE AMERICA and they want WHAT
IS BEST for the country. If the light
bulb needs changed it should be changed and we need to move forward not put
back in the same burned out bulb we had before.
